The Chicago Blackhawks are getting ready for a big training camp. They are not going to necessarily be a good team but they are certainly going to be entertaining.

Part of the reason that they are going to be so fun is the fact that they have the number one prospect in the world ready to make his NHL debut. His training camp and preseason will have a lot of eyes on it.

On Tuesday, General Manager Kyle Davidson spoke at the podium about a variety of different topics. It was a very informative presser as he covered all sorts of different topics.

He made sure to note that the Blackhawks are not going to have a captain this season. That is an amazing decision that they made. There is no reason to prematurely name someone just to name someone.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a good grasp on their team at this point in time.

There are plenty of good options for a committee of alternate captains this year. It is pretty clear that the goal is to have Connor Bedard be the next leader of this team. He has been the captain everywhere he’s gone and the NHL will likely be no different.

Part of not naming a captain has to do with honoring Jonathan Toews as well. They want to respect him and let it breathe for a while. Not only was Toews the best captain in team history, he is one of the best ever.

Davidson made some other important comments but the update on Lucas Reichel needs to be mentioned. Last season, his status with the team was unknown and they considered him to be a winger.

Now, they believe he is NHL-ready and is considered to be a center. Obviously, that is better for him in terms of potential earnings in his career but it also weighs more responsibility.

If Reichel comes out and is amazing at even strength as a center (that would mean he’s not a Bedard linemate), they would have a very solid 1-2 punch down the middle to build around.

This is a player that they drafted in the first round for a reason. He has a ton of skill that he needs to put on display in the NHL. As of right now, it sounds like the Hawks are all in on him.

The other extremely notable thing that came from his presser was his opinion of Kevin Korchinski who was their first-round pick in 2023-24. For one, he stressed how important he is to them. The Hawks believe in him.

He claims that he doesn’t know exactly how Korchinski’s season is going to go. He left the option open for him to play 0 games, 9 games, half the season, of the whole season. His play will dictate how they handle that.

Now, we await player media and seeing guys get on the ice. Hockey is back and being a Blackhawks supporter is going to be fun again very soon. Kyle Davison should be proud right now. His presser was very informative which was much appreciated.
