The Chicago Blackhawks made the number one pick in the 2023 NHL Draft after winning the lottery. Of course, they took highly touted prospect Connor Bedard from the Regina St. Pats.

Bedard is one of the most highly regarded prospects in the history of the sport. Connor McDavid is the most recent prospect to be considered this good and that was in 2015.

There are other elite NHL players close to that level but none of them were as hyped in their drafts as Bedard. He showed why in his first bit of action on Saturday night.

The Chicago Blackhawks took on the St. Louis Blues in their first game of the Tom Kurver’s Prospect Showcase. As expected, he made an impact right away.

Connor Bedard dominated in his first Blackhawks game of the tourney.

It didn’t take long for Connor Bedard to score his first goal. Yes, this is just a bunch of prospects and most of them won’t play in the NHL right now. However, he was significantly better than everyone around him which led to his first goal.

That wasn’t enough for Bedard though, he ended up with a hat trick in the game. It was a dominating performance as you could ask for in a tournament like this. A lot of these kids have tons more experience but far less skill.

The St. Louis Blues have to be so annoyed. It took Bedard less than a game to dominate their players and be better than them. That’s how you know he’s going to be a great Blackhawks player. The rest of the league has been put on notice.

This was just the start for Bedard. There is more prospect showcase for him to play in and all eyes are going to be on him. There is a lot of very exciting hockey to be played with Connor Bedard leading the way.
