As the Chicago Bears look for a progression back to the mean in their Week 2 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team will seemingly be without starting guard Nate Davis.

The Bears announced that Davis did not travel with the team to Tampa Bay due to a personal issue and has been downgraded to doubtful for Sunday’s game. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported on Saturday that Davis has been dealing with the death of a close family member.

Davis signed a three-year deal with the Bears this offseason but has been away from the team for most of training camp and the preseason due to a personal issue. In some clarity that has been provided, it is believed that those absences were due to the health of the family member who passed away on Saturday morning,

The Chicago Bears will be without two key players on Sunday against the Tampa Buccaneers.

In addition to the update on Davis, the Bears also ruled cornerback Josh Blackwell out for Sunday’s game against the Buccanneers.

Blackwell was believed to be the next man up at the nickleback position in light of second-year cornerback Kyler Gordon being placed on IR after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured hand.

For Bears fans who were hoping that the Bears’ Week 2 game in Tampa Bay would serve as a “get right” game, that no longer is the case given what has happened to this team over the course of the past week.

Regardless, the Bears, as a bad team, do not have a game on their schedule that serves as a “get right” game. Having said that, there is a sense that the Bears need a win on Sunday to avoid another season-long spiral like they had last season.

Next. The Bears should make Chase Claypool a healthy scratch. dark
