If the Chicago Bears plan on taking back the NFC North, it begins on Sunday as the Bears open the season against the Green Bay Packers.

The game has the potential to be a changing of guard for the rivalry between the two teams as for the first time since the 1990s, the Packers will not be starting a future Hall of Famer at quarterback.

It is an early test for the Bears as the team looks to shift the focus from rebuilding as it was last season to winning games on the field.

The game against the Packers may have gotten easier.

Packers’ starting wide receiver Christian Watson had not been practicing this week and that led to serious questions in regard to his status for the game on Sunday. On Friday, Packers’ head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Watson has been ruled out for Sunday’s season opener.

The Chicago Bears caught a lucky break for their game on Sunday as Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has been ruled out.

This is great news for the Bears and their defensive secondary. The Bears’ secondary is believed to be the strongest position group on the team and while it would have been fun to see them tested against the deep threat of Watson, there is no doubt that this is a much more ideal outcome.

Watson totaled two touchdowns against the Bears last December in the Packers’ 28-17 victory and likely is going to be a focal point of their offense this season.

Meanwhile, on the Bears’ side, the team is entering the game relatively healthy.

Much like last season, the Bears are entering the regular season with most of their roster healthy. The exception is starting left guard Teven Jenkins as he is expected to miss the first month of the season with a calf injury.

The no-excuses tour begins on Sunday for the Bears. The time has come for action on the field to provide gratification for the action that Bears general manager Ryan Poles has taken off the field.
