The Chicago Cubs are still in a good spot. They have a little bit of a cushion when it comes to their postseason odds thanks to where they have positioned themselves.

However, they aren’t the Atlanta Braves or anything like that either. They can’t let a losing streak get too bad otherwise they are going to find themselves below the playoff line again.

On Thursday, they started a new series with the Arizona Diamondbacks who were just below the playoff line. The Cubs were also coming off an impressive sweep of the San Francisco Giants.

Well, the Diamondbacks took it to the Cubs on Thursday at Wrigley Field. Arizona defeated the Cubs by a final score of 6-2. It was never really a game that felt like the Cubs could win.

The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks are playing an interesting series.

The second game was a different story. It was 0-0 going into the 8th inning. With runners on base, Corbin Carroll hit a ball that looked like it was caught in right field by Seiya Suzuki.

After a video review, however, it was clear that the ball hit the ground before entering the glove of Suzuki, and the call was overturned.

A run scored on the play and the Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead. That would hold as a very disappointing final score.

Jameson Taillon started for the Cubs. This was a big one as the team is still trying to decide who their game-three starter would be behind Justin Steele and Kyle Hendricks.

Taillon pitched very well. He went 6.0 innings and gave up no runs on one hit and one walk. He struck out nine Arizona batters. The bullpen just allowed that one flukey run too so the pitching was great in this game.

The offense was dry on both sides for the most part. The Diamondbacks had four hits and the Cubs only had three. Corbin Carrol and Seiya Suzuki were the only players on either side to have more than one hit.

Well, now the Cubs are going to try and get a series split with Arizona as this is a four-game series. If they can win the next two, there will be no issues.

We’ll see if Arizona can keep the good vibes going or if the Cubs can flip the script on the series. This NL Wild Card race is spicy and this series will play a big role in the final outcome.
