On Thursday night, the sports world was going crazy over a crazy Detroit Lions win over the Kansas City Chiefs on the night that they raised their banner as Super Bowl Champions. However, the Chicago Blackhawks made a big announcement after the game was over.

They are going to be retiring the number of Chris Chelios who is one of the greatest players to ever suit up for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Of course, Chelios wore number seven. That was obviously the number worn by Brent Seabrook who also probably deserves to have his number retired.

The Blackhawks have some new number retirement guidelines in place to deal with situations like this one.

The Chicago Blackhawks are going to be retiring numbers in the coming years.

They are okay with retiring the same number twice which is what would need to happen with Seabrook getting his number seven honored as well.

The Blackhawks also don’t have to retire the same number at the same time which is cool but it would be awesome to see them retire Seabrook on the same night as Chelios.

The night for Chelios is February 25th against the Detroit Red Wings. Of course, he played for them after his tenure with the Blackhawks.

Well, Seabrook completed the comeback vs. Detroit in 2013 by scoring in overtime of game seven. He also rallied captain Jonathan Toews in the penalty box when they were down 3-1 in the series and that helped get them going. It makes sense for him too.

It also makes sense to give them each their own night. That is probably the route that they are going to take.

Everyone should just be happy that these new guidelines are in place to get both of their numbers retired. The new rules are also an indication that they plan on doing this quite a few times over the next handful of seasons.

Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Duncan Keith are locks but there are a few other players that could absolutely be considered for this honor.

They won so much and had some franchise legends over the last decade and honoring them is the right thing to do. Hopefully, the winning hockey returns to complement all of these upcoming nights celebrating the past.
