The Chicago Bears are by no means a good football team. We might think they are by the end of the season but they had the worst record in the NFL last season.
Now, they are (as of right now) happy to have Matt Eberflus as their head coach. There are some concerns about him being a defensive head coach as the league trends offense now but we have to see how 2023 plays out to properly judge him.
One person we do know didn’t succeed as a head coach is Matt Nagy. He was the coach of the Bears for a few years and was even a coach of the year. The Bears went to the playoffs twice in his tenure somehow but things got to be very bad in the end.
Nagy was somewhat handcuffed by the fact that Ryan Pace was a terrible GM but he didn’t do anything to help his own case.
The Chicago Bears and Matt Nagy didn’t have much success together.
Since being fired by the Bears, he has made his way back to the Kansas City Chiefs which is where he was before coming to Chicago.
As of this season, he has been promoted back to being an offensive coordinator. It showed in his first game back in that role on Thursday night.
Everything that the Bears fans hated about Nagy was on full display in the Chiefs’ loss to open the season. The Detroit Lions went to Arrowhead Stadium and defeated them.
Patrick Mahomes was down Travis Kelce on offense which certainly hurt them but Nagy’s playcalling was atrocious. He did the team that was missing their best playmaker no favors. Bears fans had to love watching him hurt the defending Super Bowl champions.
We will see how this progresses as the season goes along. Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL and it isn’t close so that might help Nagy along but that was ugly on Thursday night.
Their next game against a very good Jacksonville Jaguars team will not be easy. Nagy and his club will have to bring their best to outscore that loaded offense. Let’s make it clear one more time, he is not missed at all in Chicago.
