Chicago White Sox are begging for a manager change with their poor play
Chris Getz is officially in his new role as the Chicago White Sox general manager and one of the first decisions that Getz made was confirming with reporters that first-year manager Pedro Grifol will return next season.
Getz was introduced as the White Sox’s general manager last Thursday and confirmed Grifol’s status on the same day. Since then, the White Sox have gone winless.
The White Sox were swept by the Detroit Tigers over the weekend and then trounced by the Kansas City Royals to a tune of 12-1 on Monday.
The White Sox’s latest pantsing, this time at the hand of the Royals, led Grifol to once again throw his players under the bus and question the effort on the field.
Pedro Grifol has never had control of the Chicago White Sox’s clubhouse.
Grifol admitted to reporters at the beginning of August that he entered the season with the idea being that veterans would lead the White Sox in the clubhouse. Veterans such as Lance Lynn and Yasmani Grandal who had one step out the door the second this season got off the track.
When Grifol realized that he should have been the one to lead clubhouse, in August, it was already too late. The White Sox had become an embarrassment and rather than save face and push development, Getz insulted reporters by saying that wins were still important this season.
The White Sox are barreling ahead to a 100-loss season, so, if the goal was to win games during the second half of the season, that is yet another failure of the overpromoted bench coach. The young players, who this team will depend on heavily next season, do not respect Grifol given how quick he has been to throw them under the bus.
Grifol has lost every aspect of this White Sox team. The only thing that should be left for Grifol to address is the packing of his bags at the end of the season but any respect for him as the White Sox manager should be lost.
