The Chicago White Sox made the news official on Thursday as the team has officially announced that Chris Getz has been promoted to be the next general manager of the team while also having the title of senior vice president added to his role.

Getz is set to be officially introduced by the team in a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

Chris Getz is officially being promoted to be the next general manager of the Chicago White Sox.

The news on Thursday is official confirmation that White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf was not serious when the indication was that serious change was on the horizon when the team fired senior vice presidents Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn last week. Hahn also served as the team’s general manager and while he was the frontman for the White Sox’s previous front office structure, it was unclear on who had authority.

Presumably, Getz will be the top voice of the White Sox’s baseball operation moving forward. Despite the fact that Getz is inexperienced, has a checkered history with the handling of the White Sox employing Omar Vizquel and Wes Helms, and failed in his role of overseeing the minor league system and player development, Reinsdorf is once again showing that loyalty will prevail over logic. That is a troubling realization for White Sox fans moving forward as, despite a real opportunity at change, Reinsdorf is comfortable with the embarrassment that his team has become.

That would be the reason why Reinsdorf’s statement in the White Sox’s press release announcing the Getz promotion is extremely tone-deaf. Getz does no re-energize the organization considering his failures are a large part of the reason why this team has been a failure.

The expectation is that Getz will be joined in the White Sox front office by Dayton Moore. Moore, who spent 16 seasons as the general manager of the Kansas City Royals, is currently serving as a consultant for the Texas Rangers’ front office.

It keeps getting worse for the Chicago White Sox. dark. Next
