There appears to be growing speculation that Chris Getz is going to be named the next general manager of the Chicago White Sox.

The White Sox have made no official announcement but the working theory is that Getz will be in charge of the team’s baseball operation with Dayton Moore joining the organization as a consultant.

The White Sox must avoid making the mistake that would be a front office led by Getz with Moore in the background.

That is why there should be some comfort in the news that MLB Network insider Jon Morosi shared on Thursday morning.

Never mind the fact that Getz was the first candidate that Morosi listed, the takeaway is the two external candidates listed.

James Click is the perfect fit to be the next executive in charge of the Chicago White Sox’s front office.

James Click would be a home run hire for the White Sox in terms of finding an individual to be the top guy in the front office. Click, after clashing with Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker and owner Jim Crane, was essentially forced out of the Astros’ organization but is largely responsible for the dynasty that the team has become.

The White Sox’s fascination with the Kansas City Royals organization has never made sense. There is no doubt that Moore and Getz were a part of a front office that won the World Series in Kansas City but that was a very brief window in which they were successful. Ultimately, that is what led to Moore leaving the organization last winter.

In 2023, the Astros’ are the organization that the White Sox should emulate. That would be the reason why Jerry Reinsdorf should roll out the red carpet for Click if he is interested in being the top executive in the White Sox’s front office.

Until there is an official announcement that introduces Getz and Moore, there is still time for the White Sox to save face and get the organization back on track. Click would certainly be a second step in the right direction.
