Chicago Bears CB2 Tyrique Stevenson needs to control himself

Tyrique Stevenson has had his struggles in training camp, but for the most part, he has held his own.

Everyone knows the man has a chip on his shoulder, and we’d all like it to stay there. With that being said, Stevenson needs to control himself far more than he did on Saturday night against the Colts.

During the second quarter, Stevenson chased down a Colts player with the intention of tackling him. However, when he reached him to bring him down, the Colts player was out of bounds. Stevenson seemed to ignore this and threw the player down without regard.

He was flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty. While it was ultimately an offsetting penalty, Stevenson needs to be aware of these situations if he is going to start opposite of Jaylon Johnson.

The rookie Defensive Tackles serve notice

In continuation of last week, Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens made their mark against the Indianapolis Colts.

Dexter’s impact was subliminal. On more than one occasion, Dexter used his size and power to surge through the defense to make a stop.

For Pickens, it was not subliminal.

His best play came on a screen pass where he engaged the lineman, noticed the offensive lineman who passed off their defenders, and scraped off the blocker to make a play on a screen pass alongside of starting LB Jack Sanborn.

The rookies still have a ways to go in order to realize their full potential, but Saturday night was a fantastic example of what these two can do together once they’re up to speed with the rest of the NFL.
