The Chicago White Sox officially became irrelevant the moment Christopher Morel’s three-run homer landed.

There is no reason to watch this team anymore unless you really enjoy the food at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The trade deadline has come and gone. Ex-players have said their piece about the club’s dysfunction. Now that the last five games against the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs have come and gone, the Chicago White Sox will not play meaningful games.

That is what happens when a team starts the season 8-21 and is never able to pull itself out of a tailspin. Although, it only took 73 losses for the Sox to finally suffer their toughest loss of the year.

Unless Tim Anderson decides to fight Jose Ramirez again, the Southsiders no longer matter for the rest of the season.

The last 5 games provided the Chicago White Sox a chance to have any relevancy.

The Sox had a chance to help the Chicago Cubs last weekend by taking a series against the Brewers. Instead, the Chicago White Sox blew leads in the first two games and then got soundly beaten in the third game.

Chicago’s AL team went to Wrigley Field for a two-game series. They shocked the Cubs in Game 1 thanks to Luis Robert Jr. hitting a home run that nearly landed on Kenmore Ave.

Robert Jr. is about the only reason to tune into a game for the rest of the season. He would be an MVP contender if Shohei Ohtani did not play in the American League and if the Sox were not awful.

Anyways, the Cubs struck back in Game 2 thanks to Morel’s walk-off three-run bomb.

The Sox snatching defeat from the jaws of victory has been a running theme this season. This loss is tough as the Chicago White Sox had a chance to keep the Cubs in a decent distance from the Brewers in the NL Central division race.

Having a small say in that race was the only reason the Sox got any attention for what they were doing on the field. Now, the Sox officially do not matter.

Outside of a four-game homestand against the Minnesota Twins in September, the Sox only play 12 games against teams still alive in the playoff race.

They host the Seattle Mariners for three games next week. They travel to face the Baltimore Orioles the following week. Later in September, they travel to Boston and then host Arizona. There goes the team’s yearly goal of being relevant in September.

Otherwise, the rest of the season is the Sox trying to prove they are not as bad as the Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers, and Kansas Royals the rest of season. The team is refusing to bring up any prospects to give you a reason to remotely want to pay attention.

The manager is delusional, the general manager’s roster miscalculations let the contention window slam shut, and no one knows who is actually in charge of the Chicago White Sox.

The franchise is a clown show that is not even remotely entertaining. Thankfully, you do not have to watch it anymore.
