Cubs News: This Anthony Rizzo health update is so scary
For 10 Major League seasons, Anthony Rizzo was a magnificent Chicago Cubs player. In fact, he is one of the greatest and most successful players in the history of the franchise.
He is also one of the most beloved. Few players in the teams’ past have ever been as big of a fan favorite as Anthony Rizzo.
He has played for the New York Yankees since the trade deadline of the 2021 season as a result of the Cubs’ current rebuild.
No matter what though, Cubs fans are always going to be interested in what’s going on with him as a player and a person. This latest update on him, however, is a scary one.
Former Chicago Cubs star Anthony Rizzo is dealing with a scary issue right now.
He is hitting the 15-Day Injured List with post-concussion syndrome. Obviously, that is not good. It is even worse when you learn that the concussion was likely sustained in a collision at first base with San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. on May 28th.
Yes, you read that right. May 28th. It is August 4th and we are just learning about the severity of this issue that he has been dealing with.
At the time of his injury, Rizzo was playing some of his best baseball to begin a season. In the first 50 or so games of the season, he was slashing .304/.376/.505 with 11 home runs.
Since that collision, he is slashing .172/.271/.225 with one home run. It has been a brutal run for him and now we are learning why.
These quotes from Anthony Rizzo are not good to hear. Something was clearly wrong and it took the New York Yankees two months to do something about it. This is a very scary update that we were given.
The Yankees are in last place in the AL East and basically did nothing at the trade deadline so things are clearly not going well there. Obviously, that is not the New York Yankees we are used to but this is the reality of the situation.
In the case of Anthony Rizzo, a Chicago sports legend, we can only hope he is okay. He is right about not being washed up. He is just injured and nothing was done about it.
He needs to get healthy and then reevaluate his career future when the time is right. Hopefully, his health comes first going forward.
