MLB Trade Deadline Blues: A look ahead at Chicago sports
By James Mackey
We all followed the MLB Trade Deadline closely for the last few days, and our teams made some moves, questionable and otherwise…
But now it’s over, and you need something to watch… Don’t worry, we got you covered.
With the end of the MLB Trade window, comes the start of College Football.
We have seen the hype building for weeks, and now is the time to start looking forward to what the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Northwestern Wildcats will do when the season kicks off.
Notre Dame doesn’t start until the last weekend of August when Navy and Notre Dame take to the field in Dublin, Ireland, and Northwestern’s first game is booked for September 3rd against their BigTen Rival in Rutgers.
The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox of course will still be on, but only one will be entertaining to watch, and the other will be like watching paint dry on a wall in a garbage chute, disgusting and completely pointless, but you could watch it nonetheless.
Lucky for those of us that don’t like Notre Dame or Northwestern, and are ashamed to publicly be a White Sox fan, the Chicago Bears and the entirety of the NFL begin the preseason in August.
A look ahead at the Chicago Sports scene this fall.
The Bears have three matchups, the first of which is against the Tennessee Titans on August 12th in Chicago, followed by a trip to Indianapolis to take on the Colts at Lucas Oil, before wrapping up preseason with the Buffalo Bills.
The Chicago Bulls start the preseason with three games at the United Center, beginning on October 12th vs the defending NBA Champion, Denver Nuggets.
And finally, Connor Bedard and Co. at the United Center on Madison drop the puck on their season, when the Chicago Blackhawks slide into Pittsburgh for a matchup with the Penguins, but that’s not until the tenth of October.
However, if preseason hockey tickles your fancy, and you are just dying to see hockey in Chicago again, the Hawks open preseason on September 28th, when the St. Louis Blues head into town.
