Cubs Rumors: Jeimer Candelario is down to Chicago and Miami
It is rumor season around Major League Baseball. We are officially less than 24 hours away from the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.
The Chicago Cubs are deep in talks with teams about buying after we spent most of the season thinking they’d be sellers.
The way that the Cubs have played since the All-Star break is about to force Jed Hoyer’s hand. A big move could be coming up.
According to David Kaplan of ESPN 1000, the Chicago Cubs are interested in Jeimer Candelario. He reports that they are in “deep talks”.
We already went through and talked about what the Cubs might have to give up if they were to trade for Candelario. This was before we knew they were in deep talks to actually get the deal done.
The Chicago Cubs are clearly in on acquiring Jeimer Candelario.
Kaplan is also saying that he believes it is down to the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins. Of course, both of those teams could use some pop in their lineup in addition to someone that could play third base.
Out of those two teams, the Marlins need him for his offense more. For the Cubs, they need him because he fills a need. Of course, he is a very good player that would fit in well on most teams in Major League Baseball one way or another.
With Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner in the middle of the infield, Candelario could help them be very solid on both offense and defense. It is something worth doing for the Cubs.
It sends a very good message to the clubhouse if they make a deal like this. It also tells future free agents that the Cubs just aren’t going to be selling all the time. This could be a move that also helps them lock in a third baseman for a while if he likes it and wants to stay.
David Kaplan is very well in tune with the Cubs so you can believe his report for now. Unless another team swoops in and gets him, he should be a Cub or a Marlin.
He is not in the starting lineup for the Nationals on Monday night as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers. That is very telling as well. We’ll see what happens.
