The Chicago White Sox began their sell-off on Wednesday night as the team traded starting pitcher Lance Lynn and relief pitcher Reynaldo Lopez to the Los Angeles Angels.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn spoke with reporters after the trade on Wednesday and indicated that more moves may be on the way.

For the most part, we know what players likely will be elsewhere once August 1 passes.

Veteran starting pitcher Lance Lynn seems certain to be moved as it was initially thought on Wednesday morning that Lynn may be on the move to the Tampa Bay Rays. It also seems likely that multiple White Sox relievers will be moved as well with interest across the league in Aaron Bummer, Joe Kelly, and Kendall Graveman.

The player with the most intrigue as the deadline approaches is shortstop Tim Anderson.

Anderson has a $14MM club option for the 2024 season and if the White Sox truly do intend on contending next season, then that would seem to be an easy decision in terms of picking up the option.

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson is drawing trade interest.

Anderson, for his part, appears to have turned the corner from his struggles during the first half of the season.

Since the All-Star break, Anderson is slashing .378/440/.422 with a 148 wRC+. In other words, Anderson is showing signs of being Tim Anderson again.

If the White Sox feel confident that Anderson is indeed back to his old self, a trade would of the shortstop would probably be unlikely.

That doesn’t mean teams won’t come calling on Anderson.

Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported on Thursday that the Miami Marlins are among the teams that have expressed interest in Anderson.

With no shortstop prospect ready for the Major League level, the White Sox trading Anderson would signal a deeper rebuild than the one Hahn indicated while speaking to reporters on Wednesday night.
