Chicago White Sox Rumors: Latest on Lance Lynn
The Chicago White Sox appear to be approaching the finishing line in a potential trade of veteran starting pitcher Lance Lynn.
Early reports on Wednesday morning were that the White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays were engaged in serious discussions regarding a potential Lynn deal and talks had reached the point where the team had exchanged names.
Locally, in Tampa Bay, there has since been some pushback on how far along talks are between the White Sox and Rays.
In more indications that the trade between the Rays and White Sox may not be close, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that the Los Angeles Dodgers are still involved in trade discussions for Lynn.
The latest on the Lance Lynn Chicago White Sox trade rumors.
One thing is clear, Lynn wants out of Chicago.
Both the Dodgers and Rays are among the teams that Lynn can veto a trade to as the result of his no-trade clause. Reports earlier this season had veteran players quietly wishing to be traded from the White Sox and Lynn appears to be one of those players.
The idea of Lynn being a leader within the White Sox clubhouse this season also appears to have been overstated given the on-field showing up of Yoan Moncada earlier this season after Moncada made an error at third base.
Lynn’s contract with the White Sox was always believed to be the contention window of the team. White Sox are 20 games under the .500 mark on the season and the contention window is shut. With that in mind, there is clear motivation for the White Sox to move Lynn at the deadline as opposed to exercising his option for the 2024 season.
It’s worth noting that Lynn is currently the scheduled starter for the White Sox game against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. It may be in the White Sox’s best interest to scratch Lynn as it has become increasingly clear that a trade is in the works.
