Chicago Bears News: Justin Fields makes NFL’s Top 100 list
Chicago Bears fans may want to pay close attention to the contract extension that quarterback Justin Herbert signed with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday.
Herbert and the Chargers agreed to a five-year contract extension on Tuesday with a total value of $262.5MM. Of the $262.5MM that Herbert can earn over the course of the new contract, $133.7MM is fully guaranteed.
For Herbert, the deal arrives after his third season in the NFL and is another sign of how the NFL landscape has changed.
That is an important reminder for the Bears as Justin Fields enters his third season in the NFL.
While the Bears are entering a season where they may have an outside chance at winning the NFC North division, it is a season where the team must have a decision made on Fields by the time it concludes.
The expectation is that Fields will have a breakout season with the Bears this season and his peers across the NFL agree.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Fields made the NFL’s Top 100 list. Fields becomes the first Bears’ quarterback to make the list in franchise history and landed at No. 86.

There is no doubt that Fields making the NFL’s Top 100 list is an important mile market for the young quarterback but there is still work to be done.
As Bears’ general manager Ryan Poles mentioned during his press conference with reporters on Tuesday at the start of training camp for the team, Fields must become a better passing quarterback if he is going to live up to the expectation of being the true franchise quarterback for the organization.
For as fun as the middle stretch of games was for Fields and Bears’ offense last season, the fact remains that the offense we saw during the final five games of the season was very similar to the offense we saw during the first five games of the season that had many selling their stock on the Bears’ quarterback.
Fields saw his stock rise and this season, he will need to take another step forward.
