The Chicago Cubs just took three out of four from the lowly St. Louis Cardinals. Now they have two against an even worse Chicago White Sox team. These aren’t bad teams to be playing against if you are trying to prove yourself as a buyer.

Being a buyer or a seller shouldn’t matter for a team like the Cubs when it comes to a player like Shohei Ohtani. The Cubs should be all in on trying to add a guy like that.

Of course, in adding a guy like that, you get an ace on the mound in addition to being one of the best hitters in the league. He can truly change the course of a franchise.

If they could find a way to trade for him, the new little core that they have built suddenly looks so much better. Maybe one of these three packages would be enough to get it done:

Trade One

This would be considered to be a lighter Chicago Cubs trade for Shohei Ohtani.

Pete Crow-Armstrong is the top Chicago Cubs prospect and the number seven guy in all of baseball. His ceiling is incredible.

However, he is still a minor league player that has to prove himself so there is a risk in taking him as the centerpiece of a trade for someone like Shohei Ohtani.

Nico Hoerner is also a great player in his own right. He’d make the Angels better by going there if they must trade Shohei Ohtani as he can play both shortstop and second base.

Ben Brown is the team’s number three prospect and Nick Madrigal is a solid depth/bench piece that can be included in any trade.

A trade like this would be on the lighter side. That could happen if the Angels decide they must get something for him rather than lose him for nothing.

To be honest though, it might take just a bit more than that.
