The Chicago Cubs just took three out of four games from the St. Louis Cardinals. It made their trade deadline plans appear to be a bit more cloudy.

It also buried the Cardinals in the standings a lot more than they already were which is something that the Chicago Cubs fans would like to see.

Of course, former Chicago Cubs superstar Willson Contreras now plays for the Cardinals. Apparently, things aren’t going very well for him there either.

That is unfortunate, especially since he didn’t really leave the Cubs with the most grace of all time which turned a lot of people off of him.

The Chicago Cubs are lucky to not have Willson Contreras on the team anymore.

His season at the plate isn’t the worst of all time but he has been a disaster behind the plate. In fact, he was benched as a catcher earlier in the season.

Now, Bob Nightengale of USA Today is naming Willson Contreras as someone that could be traded by the Cardinals if they were to find a trade partner.

That makes a ton of sense. The Cardinals would probably love to trade him as the contract they gave him is clearly a mistake. He is an aging catcher that isn’t good enough of a hitter to make up for poor defense at that position.

With all of this in mind, a trade getting done doesn’t feel realistic. Contreras wasn’t able to be traded last year because nobody seemed to want him and he wasn’t even tied down to a bad contract yet.

If someone didn’t want him as a cheap rental, what makes you think they’d want to take him on now? There are plenty of better options out there right now for contending teams looking for a good catcher.

Luckily, this is no longer a problem for the Cubs to care about. They have their own hard decisions to make in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this rumor but don’t expect it.
