The Major League Baseball trade deadline is on August 1 and the Chicago White Sox are expected to be among the more active teams.

The White Sox were swept by the Minnesota Twins over the weekend and that provided more confirmation of the team’s fate as sellers.

The biggest trade chip that the White Sox have, barring an unlikely trade of Dylan Cease, is veteran starting pitcher Lucas Giolito.

The writing is on the wall that Giolito is in his final season with the White Sox as he will be a free agent after this season and the team has not shown an inclination toward a contract extension.

New York Post MLB Insider Jon Heyman was on “The Mully and Haugh Show” on Monday morning and reiterated the fact that Giolito will be moved by August 1.

"“The White Sox have been open for business for a while now,” Heyman said. “There just doesn’t seem to be much activity to this point. Some of the contending teams are waiting to see whether (Marcus) Stroman, whether (Blake) Snell, whether (Justin) Verlander may be out there. I think there will probably be a lot of activity at the end, and if I were to guess I’d say it will probably happen at the end. But he’s going to be traded. I mean, there’s no question about that at this point.”-Jon Heyman via Audacy Sports"

The Chicago White Sox are still in an ideal position for the trade of Lucas Giolito.

Deadlines spur action and that is the reason why the White Sox may take it up until August 1 before they move Giolito in the hopes that a team will get desperate in the final hours of the trading period.

Giolito, as of now, is still in a position where he may be the top starting pitcher on the market. The caveat on that, though, is dependent on what teams such as the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, or New York Mets decide to do.

If either of those three teams decide to sell, Giolito may be the fallback option for a contending team that does not acquire one of the starting pitchers that those three National League teams may make available.
