The case of Chase Claypool got more curious for the Chicago Bears on Monday.

On Sunday, the Bears made a news dump of an announcement with the news that Claypool was placed on the PUP list ahead of the start of training camp this week.

Naturally, the reaction to Claypool being placed on the PUP list was met with more negativity surrounding the trade that the Bears made with the Steelers last season.

Adding to the mystery of Claypool being placed on the PUP list was the fact that Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields told reporters earlier this month that the wide receiver was ready to go for training camp.

Apparently, Fields was telling the truth.

The Bears announced on Monday that Claypool was taken off the PUP list.

Chase Claypool is now eligible to report to Chicago Bears Training Camp on time.

The expectation is now that Claypool will indeed be on the practice field for the Bears on Wednesday.

Training camp starts on Tuesday for the Bears and there is no question that the status of Claypool will be addressed by head coach Matt Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles. Claypool missed a majority of the Beats off-season program with a soft tissue injury and were he to miss training camp, that would be a step backward for the veteran wide receiver.

The Bears presumably bolstered their wide receiver depth for training camp on Monday with the signing of Isaiah Ford. Ford has yet to record a catch in an NFL regular season game but maybe a practice squad candidate for the team.

The confusion surrounding Claypool’s status heightens the importances of the Bears’ addition of D.J. Moore. With Moore being the true No. 1 receiver in the Bears’ offense moving forward, Claypool’s role with the team is reduced. Claypool is now in a position where his production is not being counted as crucial to the success of the Bears’ offense.
