Bears Rumors: A good free agent pass rusher might be coming
The Chicago Bears are looking to improve their team before the 2023 season gets underway. With training camp about to start, things are really going to start heating up.
Justin Fields’s development is the key to the offense. There is enough there for them to score lots of points if he plays the position of quarterback well.
The same cannot be said about the defense. There is a lot of work that needs to be done. After losing Akiem Hicks, Khalil Mack, Roquan Smith, and Robert Quinn in one year, the group took a huge step back.
Now, they are trying to build it back up. There are rumors out there about the Bears still being very much in on a pass rusher before the season begins.
The Chicago Bears might be looking to make one more addition this summer.
David Kaplan of ESPN 1000 reported that the Bears are hoping to sign one of the big ones left before things get going. Of course, that would make a huge difference as getting to the quarterback is one of the most important things for an NFL defense.
Although camp is about to start, there are still some free-agent pass rushers out there for the Bears to consider. Justin Houston is there if he doesn’t end up sticking back with the Baltimore Ravens in addition to Yannick Ngakoue and Jadeveon Clowney.
All three of those guys would come in and help the Bears disrupt opposing offenses in 2023. They might even be worth it for more than a year if the Bears could find a way to get that done but we will see.
Honestly, the hope is that Kaplan’s report comes true because they need it badly. For a long time, the Chicago Bears have been known for having great defense and mediocre offense.
Well, the tides have turned but they don’t have to stay that way forever. It would be nice to see the team play well on both sides of the ball one day.
If they are able to add a really nice pass rusher, and those available guys mentioned are all good players, they will be much improved in 2023 which is all you can ask for right now.
