Bears News: A very helpful signing was made on Monday
The Chicago Bears made a move on Monday morning that may or may not help their depth. It feels like it will though because you can never have enough depth at the position of wide receiver.
On Monday morning, Isaiah Ford worked out for the Chicago Bears. He was a standout wide receiver at Virginia Tech.
The Miami Dolphins selected him in the 2019 NFL Draft but he spent the entire 2022 season on the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts.
Now, the workout must have gone well because he is signing a deal with the Chicago Bears. That means he will join some pretty good receivers on this team.
He is going to have to earn his spot on the final 53-man roster or a spot on the practice squad in training camp which is about to begin.
The Chicago Bears are signing Isaiah Ford as of this Monday afternoon.
Finding a new home in Chicago may be something that is good for Ford who is looking to make something of his NFL career. This isn’t exactly “wide receiver U” here in Chicago but there is a good culture being built by Ryan Poles and his staff. Maybe the tides will start to turn.
Ford is not going to make more of an impact than a guy like DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, or Chase Claypool but he can compete for that fourth spot.
With Claypool already on the PUP list though, spots might be opening up. That could even be the reason he was worked out by the Bears in the first place. Sometimes, all it takes is an opportunity. We’ll see what Ford does with that opportunity.
After being a standout in college and then being drafted in the NFL, it is clear that he has some talent but he needs to find a way to make use of it. We will see what this signing becomes as the weeks go along here.
You should see his name a lot in training camp and preseason games. If you don’t, that means he isn’t standing out amongst his peers. At this point, the Bears have no reason not to take a chance on a player like this.
