2. Nico Hoerner

The Chicago Cubs may consider moving Nico Hoerner if it were for Shohei Ohtani.

Of course, the Chicago Cubs have no interest in trading Nico Hoerner. He is one of their very best players and will be for a very long time.

That is unless the Cubs are the team that wins the Shohei Ohtani trade sweepstakes. The Angels may demand Hoerner if they were to trade him to the Cubs.

Chicago would probably make sure an extension with Ohtani is likely before making a move like this because losing Hoerner would be devastating if they didn’t.

Hoerner made the switch from shortstop to second base this season because of the fact that the Cubs made the signing of Dansby Swanson. Obviously, that transition has gone very well for both of them.

If a deal like this was made, Nick Madrigal could be the full-time second baseman again as long as he stays both healthy and productive.

He hasn’t lived up to the hype but he is still better than most backup second basemen around the league. Shohei Ohtani would more than makeup for the difference between Hoerner and Madrigal.
