Cardinals at Cubs Rain Delay: Updates, start time, etc
The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals began their Saturday with a rain delay. Obviously, everyone wants to get in baseball on a Saturday afternoon with beautiful weather but that can’t always be the case.
Eventually, about 40 minutes after the delay, Dexter Fowler (who played for both teams in his career) threw out the honorary first pitch. He did so from center field which was very cool.
The Cubs and the Cardinals got well into the game. In fact, six and a half innings were played before the rain came back and put a second delay on the game.
The Cubs hit the delay with an 8-6 lead thanks to some big performances from Cody Bellinger, Dansby Swanson, Seiya Suzuki, and Nico Hoerner.
The Chicago Cubs have their second rain delay of the afternoon on Saturday.
It has been a great game so far against their old pal, Willson Contreras who is also having a great game. Now, they just have to wait for the weather to give them what they want which is clear skies.
The good news is that they were able to get the 7th inning stretch in before the delay. Dexter Fowler was the guy who got to sing the song for the Wrigley faithful.
The Cubs made sure to note on social media that they will provide updates as soon as they come out.
Of course, we will update this post as the information becomes available on when these two rivals are going to begin play.
Coming into this game, each team took one from each other to begin the four-game set. If the Cubs are able to hang onto this score, they will at a minimum split it with a chance to take it 3-1 on Sunday.
It would be nice to see the game get finished before the day is over so they don’t have to mess with what has been working on this Saturday.
Stay tuned for updates.
UPDATE: The game is scheduled to resume at 5:50 PM CT
The Chicago Cubs ended up winning the game by a final score of 8-6.
