It appears Lucas Giolito’s days with the Chicago White Sox are numbered.

He is set to be a free agent after this season and with the White Sox playoff hopes nearing nothing, Giolito is going to be moved for prospects.

Rumors of Lucas getting traded have been going around since early May.

Giolito being traded away is the biggest sign yet that the rebuild failed. He came to Chicago in one of the best trades during the roster tear-down phase.

Giolito was a foundational piece of the rotation that got the Sox back into the playoffs in 2020–the franchise’s first postseason appearance in 12 years.

The Sox won just two playoff games during their supposed contention window. Now the window is shut.

Another full-out rebuild should happen but the issue with that is general manager Rick Hahn will most likely be in charge of it. Considering he failed the first time, it is highly unlikely his second attempt will work out any better.

What will most likely happen is players set to be free agents after the season will be dealt so the team makes sure they lose them for nothing. Also, some bullpen pieces will be moved to help build the farm system back up.

That means Kendall Graveman, Lance Lynn, Keynan Middleton, Joe Kelly, and Yasmani Grandal will be dealt before the MLB trade deadline.

Giolito is the player that will bring back the most value since he has a 3.96 ERA and is a 2.3 bWAR player.

He is also considered to be one of the five best players available on the trade market. Giolito did get roughed up in his most recent start but that should not impact his trade market.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore Orioles are rumored to have an interest in acquiring Giolito.
