This past weekend was a story of what could have been for the Chicago White Sox as the team took two of three games against the best team in Major League Baseball, the Atlanta Braves.

The issue for the White Sox is that the team made up no ground in the American League Central division as the Minnesota Twins swept the Oakland Athletics over the weekend.

For the White Sox, the team buried themselves too big of a hole to climb out of and it seems unlikely that the team’s strategy at the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline will shift.

The White Sox are going to sell at the deadline and veteran starting pitcher Lucas Giolito may be the trade chip that nets the team the most in return.

Giolito did not get a start against the Braves this past weekend and with teams such as the Cincinnati Reds having interest, there had been speculation that the White Sox were closing in on a trade of their veteran starting pitcher.

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito may be making his final start in a White Sox uniform on Tuesday.

Giolito will make the start for the White Sox on Tuesday night in New York when the team begins a three-game series against the New York Mets.

For Giolito, there is a strong chance that his start on Tuesday will be his last in a White Sox uniform.

The ideology is quite simple as the more starts that Giolito makes for the White Sox, that is one less start that he will be making for the team that trades for him. With the White Sox being one of the few teams that are declared sellers at this point of the season, it would benefit the team to move Giolito as soon as possible.

That would be the reason why Tuesday night may be a surreal moment for White Sox fans. Giolito, once believed to be the anchor of the White Sox’s rotation during their contention window, will now signal the end of an era for the team once he is traded.
