The Chicago Cubs are not that good. They have had some fun moments in 2023 but they will not be in the playoffs. Everyone that thinks the NL Central is so bad needs to check out the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs have no shot.

However, they have plenty of pieces signed long-term to build around. That will make the rest of the season exciting to watch no matter what. However, they need to be sellers before August 1st.

There are players like Marcus Stroman to think about. He is having an All-Star-caliber year on the mound for the Cubs. Excellent would be an understatement to describe him.

He also has some term left as the Cubs could keep him around if they wanted. That certainly gives him some more value.

With that said, he has to be traded. This is a guy that talked about playing for another team before he ever even threw a pitch in a Cubs uniform. He isn’t in the long-term plans.

The Chicago Cubs should be sellers before the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline.

There are some players on this team, however, that are on one-year deals that should be moved. Cody Bellinger seems to improve his stock every single day. As a result, he should be traded away for future assets.

Anyone that will return something of value and isn’t part of the long-term plans should be on the block. It is the tough reality that comes with the business side of the sport.

It is never fun to be sellers and this is the third straight season that the Cubs are one. However, if they want to get back to that sustained success that they had from 2015-2020, this is the best path.

Once the trade deadline passes, regardless of what moves the Cubs have made, there will still be plenty of exciting players to watch. Dansby Swanson, Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ, and Seiya Suzuki are a few examples of good players that are on the Cubs for the long haul.

Jed Hoyer is a good baseball man. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with during this difficult time of year.

The Chicago Cubs should make Marquee a national network. light. Related Story
