Chicago White Sox Rumors: Lance Lynn trade being discussed with Rays
The Chicago White Sox are in a prime position as the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline approaches as the team has two starting pitchers in Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn that are expected to be targeted by contending teams.
Giolito’s market is beginning to take shape. Over the course of the past week, we have heard that the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers are two teams that have expressed interest.
For Lynn, it was previously reported that the Texas Rangers are interested in the veteran starting pitcher.
Another team has emerged in Lynn’s market.
According to Bob Nightengale of The USA Today, the Tampa Bay Rays have expressed interest in Lynn.
"They have engaged in trade talks with the White Sox about veteran Lance Lynn, whose strikeout rate is an impressive 11.1 per nine innings, but the White Sox’s asking price remains steep. They also have been extensively scouting Cardinals starters Jordan Montgomery and Jack Flaherty.-Bob Nightengale via USA Today"
The Chicago White Sox certainly should have the inclination to make a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays got off to a roaring start to the season but have since come back down to earth and the Baltimore Orioles are within two games of catching Tampa Bay in the American League East division. The Rays’ starting rotation has been considered their weakness and there is no doubt that a veteran such as Lynn may be an ideal fit.
For the White Sox, the Rays are definitely one of the teams that they should be looking to match with on a trade.
The Rays have routinely had one of the best farm systems in all of Major League Baseball over the course of the past decade and this season has been no different as they have four-Top 100 prospects in all of baseball.
Lynn, on his own, likely will not be enough for the White Sox to get one of those four Top-100 prospects that the Rays have to offer. But, the White Sox may be willing to add a reliever such as Kendall Graveman and that certainly would up the offer from Tampa Bay.
