Lucas Giolito’s free agency status will impact what Rick Hahn will get back.

Last year’s trade market so a couple of starters return some really good prospects. Montas and Castillo still had team control. Quintana’s return might be a good predictor of what the Sox could get. His numbers last season with the Pirates were similar to Giolito’s.

The Dodgers are desperate for starting pitching.

Clayton Kershaw is out until August. Walker Buehler has not pitched all season after having Tommy John surgery last year. Ryan Pepiot is on the 60-day IL. Dustin May’s season might be over as he needs surgery to fix the flexor tendon in his right elbow.

Noah Syndergaard is on the 15-day IL with a blister.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants are nipping at the Dodgers’ heels in the standings.

Rick Hahn might be able to exploit that to get a really good package of prospects for the Chicago White Sox.

Also, Hahn can throw in Lance Lynn, Kenyan Middleton, Reynaldo Lopez, Kendall Graveman, or Tim Anderson to up the return.

Let’s say the Dodgers only want to acquire Giolito, here are a couple of trade offers Hahn should consider:

This would be a high return as Rushing is the Dodgers’ third-best prospect and Stone is their fourth.

There are dreams that Giolito could fetch LA’s top prospect in catcher Diego Cartaya. He has the potential to be the franchise’s next great catcher.

That could block Rushing, so he could be deemed expendable. He raked last year at Low-A ball, but he is hitting .253 with eight home runs at High-A ball. He has a .418 on-base percentage and hits left-handed.

Stone made three starts for the Dodgers this year and the results were not good. He had an ERA over 12, but he pitched against the Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies all while being rushed up to help the big league club.

Hahn’s boss, Kenny Williams, has experience with taking top pitching prospects who struggled in their first taste of the Majors.

Stone has turned in some really good starts since being sent back down to Triple-A.

Hahn would need to exploit other teams being interested in Giolito as well as the Dodgers being desperate for starting pitching to land two top 50 prospects.

Pages would be the centerpiece of this deal as he is the Dodgers’ fifth-best prospect. He just got to Triple-A after slashing .284/.430/.495 with a .925 OPS at Double-A Tulane. This is probably a more realistic option for the Sox to land one of LA’s top-five prospects.

Although, David Peralta and Jason Heyward are well into their 30s. So the Dodgers might be inclined to keep Pages.

Hey, if Hahn asks for only two or three prospects in return and uses the other team’s interest in Lucas, he might be able to get Pages included in an offer. We are talking about adding an over two WAR pitcher to a club with World Series aspirations.

Ryan is the Dodgers’ No. 11 prospect with a fastball that can reach 99mph.

Burns is a lefty who ranks No. 15 in the Dodgers’ system. He is another flamethrower that is dominating A-ball right now.

Giving three top-15 prospects for a three-month rental is a steep price to pay. The Dodgers have so much pitching depth in their system that is not out of the realm of possibility they are willing to move some young arms.

This might be the most realistic of the three deals. The Cardinals sent their 10th-best prospect to get Jose Quintana last year at the deadline from the Pirates. It is not unrealistic for the Chicago White Sox to try to get the Dodgers No. 9 prospect in Nastrini.

The Sox might not get four players back like some other deals at last year’s deadline but they should try to get at least three.

In this deal, they get the Dodgers’ No. 18 prospect in Knopp and the No. 26 prospect in Munoz.

Nastrini has a 3.92 ERA at Double-A Tulane. Knopp is a big pitcher who throws left-handed with a fastball that reaches 99 on the gun.

Munoz was given a large signing bonus from Los Angeles’ international bonus pool. He is 18 and hits from the left side. Being such a young player, the Dodgers might be willing to part with him for a chance to get a pitcher who can help them win now.
