Chicago White Sox Rumors: Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito as trade candidates
Any hope of the Chicago White Sox going on a run to start the second half of their season may have been lost when White Sox starting pitcher Michael Kopech served up a grand slam to Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson in the first inning of Friday’s game.
The White Sox went on to lose the game 9-0 and provided more confirmation that the team will be sellers ahead of the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline on August 1.
The trade rumors have already started for the White Sox. Lucas Giolito has been rumored to be of interest to the Los Angeles Dodgers while the Cincinnati Reds have had discussions with the White Sox regarding their available starting pitchers.
Over the course of the next three weeks, the White Sox likely will be making plenty of moves as they shift their focus to the 2024 season.
The Chicago White Sox have plenty of trade chips to sell at the MLB Trade Deadline.
That would be the reason why a pair of White Sox pitchers find themselves on Mark Feinsand’s list of 10 potential trade chips on the rise. The two pitchers were Giolito and veteran starting pitcher Lance Lynn.
It seems to be a foregone conclusion that the White Sox will move Giolito at the deadline. Giolito is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and reports dating back to May have suggested that the White Sox are not interested in a contract extension. Among the teams that Feinsand lists as being fits for Giolito are the aforementioned Dodgers along with the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox.
Lynn seems likely to be moved at the deadline as well considering the unlikelihood of the White Sox picking up his $18MM option for the 2024 season. The Texas Rangers have already been reported as having a strong interest in Lynn and Feinsand lists the Dodgers, Red Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies as teams that could have interest.
Starting pitching is always the commodity at the deadline and the White Sox are in an ideal position as they have two veteran starting pitchers that contending teams will target.
