Chicago White Sox News: Luis Robert Jr injured during Home Run Derby
The Chicago White Sox can not have nice things.
Chicago White Sox All-Star center fielder Luis Robert Jr was one of the highlights of the 2023 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby as his first-round performance of 28 home runs to defeat Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman truly was mesmerizing.
It was a stage where Robert had the opportunity to announce his presence as an emerging superstar in Major League Baseball and he delivered.
Unfortunately, the horrible curse of “what can go wrong, will go wrong” for the White Sox followed Robert to Seattle for the All-Star game.
The White Sox announced on Tuesday that Robert has been scratched from the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star game due to tightness in his right calf and he will be evaluated by the team before the start of the second half of their season.
The Chicago White Sox’s season found a way to get worse during the 2023 MLB All-Star break.
Robert’s inclusion in the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star festivities was shaping up to be the lone highlight of the White Sox’s otherwise disappointing season. Instead, Robert’s injury furthers the misery for fans.
The concern is that Robert is set to undergo further evaluation before the White Sox start the second half of the schedule on Friday. While that is not a precursor to Robert needing to be placed on the IL to begin the second half of the season, the fact that more testing is needed likely means that the White Sox’s All-Star center fielder will not be in the starting lineup when the team takes the field against the Atlanta Braves.
Robert had been in the middle of a breakout season for the White Sox and it is largely due to his ability to stay healthy up until this point. Robert is slashing .271/.330/.569 on the season with 26 home runs and a 143 wRC+.
With the White Sox not having a game until Friday, it seems likely the news surrounding Robert’s injury will be mum until then.
