The Chicago White Sox are 16 games under the .500 mark on the season and 8 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central division.

The White Sox are going to be sellers at the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline and it will mark the closing of a contention window for the team that resulted in zero postseason series victories.

The rebuild was a failure for the White Sox and it would seem that the organization is ready to admit that and begin the teardown. Major League Baseball insider Jon Heyman joined “The Mully and Haugh” Show on Monday and indicated that the team could begin to make trades as soon as this week.

Heyman was asked about the players that the White Sox will be looking to move at the deadline and named only four that are considered untouchable.

"“What I’m gathering from other sources around the league is that they’re open – not saying they will trade them – open to trading almost everybody with the exception of a few players, those players being (Dylan) Cease, (Luis) Robert, (Andrew) Vaughn and (Eloy) Jimenez,” Heyman said. “So, basically four players that they don’t want to trade. Does that mean that they wouldn’t consider it or wouldn’t listen to offers? I’m not sure about that. But I expect those four players to stay and anyone else could be dealt.”-Jon Heyman via 670 The Score"

Starting pitcher Dylan Cease and center fielder Luis Robert Jr seem like the ideal starting points for the White Sox to rebuild their core around. Robert is on the verge of becoming the next superstar in Major League Baseball while Cease figures to be the anchor of their starting rotation.

The Chicago White Sox sell-off at the 2023 MLB Trade Deadline appears to be imminent.

The White Sox remain high on first baseman Andrew Vaughn though the metrics this season would suggest he is just a guy. Vaughn has a wRC+ of 108 this season and has struggled defensively at first base.

Availability continues to be the biggest flaw of Eloy Jimenez. Jimenez was limited to 59 games played during the first half of the season and if playing more than 100 games in a season is the exception and not the expectation, that is a problem for a player to be considered a legitimate part of a contending team’s core.

The player that Heyman did not mention? Shortstop Tim Anderson. A divorce between the White Sox and Anderson seems like the best outcome for both sides but Anderson’s sunken value may make it hard for the White Sox to find a trade partner at the deadline.

Next. Lance Lynn to the Texas Rangers?. dark
