With the Chicago White Sox facing an impending sell-off at the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline on August 1, veteran starting pitcher Lance Lynn seems like a prime candidate to be moved.

Whispers around the White Sox organization have suggested that Lynn is among the players that are seeking a trade from the team and the Texas Rangers may be the team to grant the veteran starting pitcher his wish.

Bob Nightengale of The USA Today reported on Sunday that the Rangers have shown a strong interest in Lynn.

"The Texas Rangers have shown strong interest in White Sox veteran starter Lance Lynn, who struck out a franchise-record 16 batters and 11 batters in two of his last four starts. Lynn is earning $18.5 million this year with an $18.5 million club option or $1 million buyout in 2024.Teams who have inquired say the White Sox continue to have a high asking price for him.-Bob Nightengale via The USA Today"

Interestingly enough, the Rangers trading for Lynn would be a full-circle moment considering the White Sox parted with pitching prospect Dane Dunning after the 2020 season in a trade with Texas that saw the team originally acquire Lynn.

Lance Lynn may return to the Texas Rangers in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.

Lynn has since signed a contract extension with the White Sox but the team holds a club option for the 2024 season that will likely be declined. Lynn has struggled this season with the White Sox as he has a 6.03 ERA through 18 starts.

Lynn’s most recent start would suggest that he still has more in the tank. Against the Toronto Blue Jays, Lynn struck out 11 hitters while only allowing 1 hit in 7 innings of work. It was the perfect showcase for the veteran starting pitcher as teams with a need for starting pitcher take a look over the White Sox’s roster.

It would best serve the White Sox to move Lynn as soon as they can. With the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star break this week, a trade of Lynn could be the first of many deals that the White Sox make over the next three weeks.
