Chicago Blackhawks: This new signing could really help them
The Chicago Blackhawks have had a crazy off-season so far. Of course, they drafted Connor Bedard in addition to multiple other great young prospects. Some of them may take longer than others but Chicago has some work to do now.
So far, because of some trades, the team has already acquired guys like Taylor Hall, Nick Foligno, and Corey Perry. Clearly, they want Bedard to start his career on a team that is respectable.
None of them, however, are signed for longer than two years. Hall, the best of them, is also the only one beyond one year. Kyle Davidson has added some quality veterans in deals that won’t hurt the team down the line.
Well, he handed out another really nice deal like that on Saturday when free agency opened. Ryan Donatois coming to Chicago on a one-year deal worth two million dollars.
The Chicago Blackhawks have added Ryan Donato in free agency.
Donato is a solid middle-six forward that will be right into Chicago’s game for one year. Donato has plenty of offensive skills including a shot that has helped him score some awesome goals in his career.
The Harvard standout was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 2nd round of the 2014 NHL Draft. Since then, he has had stops with the Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, and Seattle Kraken.
With all of them, he has been a solid contributor. He isn’t a star forward or anything like that but you can always expect double-digit goals, 20+ points, and a good player in all three zones.
Donato is going to come to Chicago and surprise some people with his play. If he is put in a position to succeed on the ice, the team will be better just because he is on the roster as opposed to a replacement-level guy. Kyle Davidson should be proud of his moves.
