It is free agency time in the National Hockey League. The Chicago Blackhawks are going to be one of the many teams looking for more players to add for the upcoming season (or more).

Obviously, some teams get themselves into trouble during the free agency window but the Hawks have so much money to spend. Kyle Davidson is clearly into veteran leadership on short-term deals right now, even if it means overpaying them a bit.

Now that free agency has arrived, it will be interesting to see if he signs anybody to help him fill out the bottom six next season. You’d figure that he might be interested in signing one or two more forwards for NHL depth.

If he did go that route, it would almost certainly be on team-friendly deals. These are the three forwards that he might look to sign for next season:

1. Matt Duchene

Matt Duchene would fit in very well with the Chicago Blackhawks next year.

This week, we learned that the Nashville Predators are buying out forward Matt Duchene. This is a pretty surprising move but the Preds are clearly in the early stages of their rebuild.

Duchene has been a very good NHL player in his career. Although he had a down year last year, he still led the team in goals with 22 and was second only to Roman Josi in points.

Those 22 goals are more than any player on the Hawks’ current roster last year, including the newly acquired Taylor Hall. You’d think Duchene would get a chance with Connor Bedardtoo.

He isn’t going to go to a team and turn them into Cup contenders or anything like that but his impact will be felt on the scoresheet.
