The Chicago Blackhawks are a totally different-looking franchise following the 2023 NHL Draft. Connor Bedard is coming and he is going to turn this team around.

During day two of the draft, the Hawks made a trade that might have caught some people off guard. They sent a 7th-round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the UFA rights of Corey Perry.

Well, with the way that Kyle Davidson has been acting this off-season, it is hard to question anything that he does. You knew he wouldn’t give away an asset to get a guy he’ll lose for nothing two days later.

On the very same night that he acquired Perry, they extended him. Perry is getting a one-year deal worth four million dollars. That is a massive overpay for Perry in the year 2023 but the Hawks can do one-year deals like that.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Corey Perry have come to a contract agreement.

For one, there is a salary floor that they need to reach. This will help with that. They can also flip Perry at the deadline if another team will give an asset for him.

Corey Perry does still provide somewhat of a scoring touch while getting under the skin of the opposing players. That type of player may come in handy this season.

This is also someone who comes with loads of experience. Perry has won the Stanley Cup one time and has appeared in the Final a few times since. This is also a former Hart Trophy winner as league MVP.

He will provide just what the young players on this team need for the short time that he is going to be there. Now, not too many people will just take free shots at Bedard knowing they will have to deal with Corey Perry along with Nick Foligno in 2023.

This very well could be Perry’s last run in the NHL so it should be fun to watch. Adding a few veterans to skate with this team is fun to watch and they might not be done.
