The Chicago Blackhawks were getting ready for round two of the 2023 NHL Draft to begin on Thursday morning when they made another big trade. Kyle Davidson has been on fire.

They are clearly looking to be a better team in 2023-24 because they are adding players that are going to make them a better team.

Kyle sent “future considerations” to the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Josh Bailey and a 2026 second-round pick.

Not only do they get a nice depth piece in Josh Bailey for a year (unless he signs an extension) at five million dollars, but they also get that second-round pick in 2026. It might seem far away because it kind of is but having it when the time comes will be awesome.

The Chicago Blackhawks made a big trade on Thursday morning.

Once the Hawks are good again, they will still want to have lots of draft picks so they can make sure that the farm system is kept intact. That is how you build sustained success.

Bailey may or may not get to see some time with Connor Bedard but that remains to be seen. For now, he should be seen as a good player to join their top six for a year.

With guys like Bedard, Taylor Hall, Andreas Athanasiou, and Lukas Reichel amongst others, it is fair to say that the top six is going to be fun at a minimum.

Bailey has spent his entire fifteen-year NHL career up to this point with the New York Islanders. There have been lots of goals, assists, and deep playoff runs with them.

Now, he is the perfect player to come over and try to help this team take a step. It will be cool to see him play for the Hawks.

This is simply a cap dump for the retooling Islanders. We don’t even know what is going to go back to them for sure but we will find out what the “future considerations” are over time. This is a good deal for Chicago.
