NHL 2023 Mock Draft: Blackhawks lead a generational year
The top five in this draft can truly be an elite group and it doesn’t end there.

This might have been said already a bunch of times but it is true. It is a shock that the team selecting fifth overall is drafting a player this good.
Benson had one of the best years ever for a Major Junior player and he is going to go fifth overall because the talent around him is so good. Actually, it isn’t even a lock that he goes fifth but Montreal takes them in this particular mock.
Benson is a forward that can play all three positions. It will be interesting to see which spot he sticks with once he reaches this level but he showed the ability to do it all during his days as a member of the Winnipeg Ice.
With the young core that the Habs are building, a young forward like Zach Benson being added to the mix would help them a lot. They could eventually be a very good team in the near future.
