Many are circling Chicago Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields’ name when predicting which NFL star will reach superstar status this upcoming season and a stat shared on Wednesday will only lend more credence to that claim.

One thing that was apparent for Fields during last season was his ability to hold his own when the Bears were facing playoff-caliber teams. There was one performance, in particular, where Fields proved to be the best quarterback on the field.

The performance was the Bears’ Week 16 game against the Buffalo Bills. Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen and his development have been the comparison made to Fields the most over his first three seasons in the NFL and Allen has become a perennial candidate for the NFL MVP award.

In that game against the Bears, Allen completed 15 of 26 passes for a total of 172 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

As a passer, in that game, Fields was better.

Fields completed 15 of 23 passes in that game for a total of 119 yards with 1 touchdown and no interceptions.

Sure, Fields wasn’t great in that game but he was the better passing quarterback on the field when the Bears faced Allen and the Bills. If Allen had the performance against the 2023 Bears, chances are Chicago wins that game.

So why are we rambling about a random Bears game from last December?

Because NFL Gameday shared this Fields’ stat on Wednesday.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields thrives against the top NFL teams.

Big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games. That is what Fields did last year when facing some of the best teams in the NFL and that is why there should be reason for optimism regarding a potential breakout season.

For the first time as the Bears’ full-time starting quarterback and a gameplan that caters to his strengths, Fields has a No.1 wide receiver in D.J. Moore and an offensive line that has stabilized and should be improved with rookie right tackle Darnell Wright. The NFL is on alert and Fields is ready to emerge as one of the best young quarterbacks in the league.
