Round Two

The Chicago Blackhawks have four picks to make in the second round.

2 – 35: David Edstrom

The Chicago Blackhawks are going to get a very good player with the 35th overall pick no matter who they take out of the projected bunch.

The first-round talent is bleeding into the second round this year which is what makes it such a special draft.

David Edstrom is the pick to make here. He is a center that comes from Sweden. They are hoping to develop some other centers in the system so they can hit on a few of them. If they add Edstrom to the mix, that will increase their chances of doing that.

2 – 44: Anton Wahlberg

Just like the pick of David Edstrom here, the Hawks are taking a big centerman from Sweden. You can never have too much organizational depth at that position.

Developing good centers is very difficult which is why they should continue to draft them when they see fit as often as they can.

2 – 51: Michael Hrabal

The Chicago Blackhawks already have Petr Mrazek on the roster in addition to both Drew Commesso and Arvid Soderblom in the system.

They are going to do what they can to develop the latter two as they are both young with a very high ceiling.

However, it never hurts to continue drafting goalies. You never know what kind of gems are sitting there in the draft.

Michael Hrabal out of the Czech Republic is someone to think about. He is going to come over and play some college hockey at Massachusetts.

There is a very real chance that he is the only drafted goalie in the first two rounds. If the Hawks can get him, they may look smart down the line.

2 – 55: Mathieu Cataford

The Chicago Blackhawks would be really smart to draft a Canadian winger named Mathieu Cataford with this selection.

He took a big step in year two of playing with the Halifax Mooseheads which is a very promising sign.

He will likely stay in Major Junior again for another year which may be great for him. Taking him with the 55th overall selection would be really wise because of the overall skillset he brings as a right-wing.
