5 players the Chicago Blackhawks could take with their other first-round pick
By Todd Welter
Brayden Yager is another smaller but skilled center.
NHL.com’s Mike G. Morreale thinks the Hawks will take the 5’11” Canadian. He is like Bedard in that he is a center under six feet tall. He does have plenty of skill to make up for his lack of height.
He is Wheeler’s 15th-best prospect. He has the potential to be a second-line center and play on the power play’s first unit.
Yager scored 28 goals and had 50 assists last season for Moose Jaw of the WHL.
He has a strong two-way game, but Yager needs to get stronger physically.
He has competed against Bedard at the junior level and the Chicago Blackhawks could put them on the same roster if Yager is taken at No. 19.
Dalibor Dvorsky impressed at the U18 World Juniors.
Sportsnet’s Jason Bukala thinks the Chicago Blackhawks will take this center out of Slovakia.
He has good size at 6’1″ and Dvorsky scored eight goals at the U18 World Junior Championships. He has a good shot and can play both ways.
Dvorsky is Wheeler’s eighth-best prospect in this draft. He is highly intelligent on the ice, so you know the Hawks’ brass is going to like that.
He is under contract for two more seasons with IK Oskarshamn of the SHL.
Dvorsky could be a really good center on the second line, help on the penalty kill, and on the power play.
Regardless of who the Chicago Blackhawks take, they will be getting a really good prospect with the No. 19 pick.
