Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr clubbed two home runs in the team’s 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday and Robert passed the 20-home run marker on the season as he now sits at 21 for the season.

With 21 home runs on the season, Robert has the second most home runs of any player in the American League with Los Angeles Angels’ superstar Shohei Ohtani being the only player ahead of him.

Robert now has 21 home runs and 20 doubles on the season and with reaching that feat during the first half of the 2023 Major League Baseball regular season, the White Sox center field joined some memorable names in team history.

Frank Thomas, Magglio Ordonez, Jermaine Dye, and Jose Abreu are White Sox legends and now, Robert has reached a milestone that they have accomplished.

Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert has had a historic first half of the season.

For Robert, it may have been the benching by manager Pedro Grifol that has turned around his season. Since that point in the season, Robert has turned his season around and has emerged as one of the best position players in all of Major League Baseball.

Robert’s emergence comes at an important time during the season for the White Sox. The White Sox gained a game in the American League Central standings over the weekend as they now sit 6 games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place.

Robert’s breakout season for the White Sox also takes the pressure off Eloy Jimenez. There is no question that the White Sox have struggled as a whole offensively this season and there may have been pressure mounting on Jimenez. Jimenez has looked off this season as he has registered only a 104 wRC+ through 196 plate appearances.

One thing is certain with the long-term direction for the White Sox seemingly at a crossroads, Robert may be the player to build the next core around.
