The Chicago Cubs won a huge game on Saturday to kick off the London Series. They took it to the St. Louis Cardinals by a final score of 9-1. They needed a big performance in game two to sweep.

The second of two matches overseas looked like it was going to go very well for the Cubs early on. They scored four runs in the top of the first which was another great start for them.

This time, however, things went south quickly. In the second inning, the Cubs allowed three runs to the Cardinals with Marcus Stroman on the mound.

St. Louis then tied it in the third inning before gaining the lead for the first time in the series during the fourth inning. They tacked on an extra run in the fifth to make it 7-4. The Cubs got one back in the 9th but that wasn’t enough as the final score of 7-5 stood.

The Chicago Cubs split the London Series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Marcus Stroman left the game after 3.1 innings with a blister. It appears as if this wasn’t going to be serious and that the ace of the staff is going to be okay. He wasn’t very good in this one but it is fair to wonder how much the blister impacted his stuff.

So the Cubs split the London Series with the Cardinals. Yeah, you’d like to see them sweep this one but the fans in London being treated to some fun baseball is a huge win for baseball as a whole. This rivalry is outstanding.

The Cubs sit 3.5 games out of first place in the NL Central as they are 8-2 in their last ten games. They will come back to the United States of America looking to stay in the thick of this division race. As of right now, the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers are the only ones ahead of them there.

They have an off day on Monday to get back into the swing of things. They will welcome the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies to town on Tuesday night. This was a fun time in London but there is business to get back to.
