3 reasons to be concerned with Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol
By Todd Welter
Doing what Tony La Russa did with Lenyn Sosa last season only this time it is Jose Rodriguez.
Last year the Chicago White Sox called up Lenyn Sosa in June and then in August. For the most part, he sat on the bench during those stays.
Instead of seeing what Sosa could do in the Majors, La Russa went with veterans like Leury Garcia and Elvis Andrus.
Now the Elvis Andrus decision worked out in the Sox’s favor.
Still, if the Sox needed someone to be on the bench, they could have called up Yolbert Sanchez and allowed one of their top prospects to continue to get valuable playing time at Double-A Birmingham.
Fast forward to this season and the Sox are doing the same thing, only this time it is Jose Rodriguez who has been called up to sit and eat sunflower seeds in the clubhouse.
Once again, the Chicago White Sox have Yolbert Sanchez in Triple-A Charlotte available. He can easily be called up to fill this brief period where the Sox need an emergency backup infielder.
Grifol could also see the lineup needs some sort of spark and see if the team’s sixth-best prospect can light that match. If this is a front office decision, Grifol needs to speak up and say this is not the best use of the potential future starting second basemen.
