The Chicago Blackhawks had some incredible years with Jonathan Toews. He is one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise and certainly the best captain they’ve ever had.

Now, we know his time in Chicago is done. We don’t know what the future holds for him. He is taking time to contemplate if his career is going to continue on the playing side of things or not.

A new report from Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff suggests that Toews won’t be a signing made on day one of free agency. He is reporting that the decision does still need to be made.

He also reported that the list of contenders that would love to have Jonathan Toews is very long. That has to be something that goes into his decision. It is nice to be wanted.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Jonathan Toews will be linked forever.

It is a little strange that the Blackhawks didn’t leave that door open before knowing Connor Bedard was coming because it would be cool to see them play together but it won’t be. It is just simply time to move on now.

Toews clearly, if his body can handle it, has a lot to give. He can still score goals, win tons of faceoffs, and brings a wealth of experience that is so rare in pro sports. What team trying to win wouldn’t want a three-time Stanley Cup-winning captain?

Toews has missed time in recent years dealing with health situations and that could be the only thing holding him back from announcing that he is staying. He does, at the end of the day, need to do what is right for him, his family, and his body.

Because of what Toews has done in his NHL career with Chicago, he will always be a legend in town that people are interested in hearing about. The same goes for Patrick Kane who is also looking for his next NHL home.

It is going to take a long time before the Blackhawks are good and back in the playoffs again. Until that happens, and Bedard will help make that happen, rooting on Toews (and Kane) will be fun. Hopefully, he is healthy enough to try and get one more Cup.
