The Chicago White Sox season may have hit a new low on Thursday as the team blew a 4-0 lead against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Sox have not lost five of their last seven games and the frustrations are now showing on the field as evidenced by center fielder Luis Robert’s reaction to the walk-off hit by Dodgers’ first baseman Freddie Freeman on Thursday night.

For White Sox fans, there have been numerous times this season when it may have seemed that all hope was lost. Whether it was the multiple injuries to outfielder Eloy Jimenez, the continued regression of third baseman Yoan Moncada, the lack of power from shortstop Tim Anderson, or the regression of veteran starting pitcher Lance Lynn; there have numerous instances this season that have represented a clear statement that the White Sox contention window is closed.

Luis Robert channeled the hopelessness of all Chicago White Sox fans on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The moment provided by Robert on Thursday may take the cake. The fact that Robert did not move a single inch on the walk-off hit by Freeman is a sign that the team knows what we all do: there is no point to give the impression of a false sense of hope.

The White Sox begin a weekend series against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night and will enter the game with a record of 30-40 on the season and in third place in the American League Central division. The White Sox are 5.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place in the division and if the team is unable to capitalize on games like the one on Thursday against the Dodgers, there is no reason to believe they can right the ship.

Thursday night was another reminder of the low points that the White Sox have reached in their failure to live up to the expectations that were set for their contention window.
