The Chicago Cubs have two nice wins in a row but the season overall hasn’t been what they’ve planned so far.

Based on their roster, it isn’t all that surprising. Cody Bellinger, who was an elite player at one point, has been injured for some of the year but now he’s back.

The Cubs activated Bellinger on Thursday following a rehab stint in AAA Iowa. He was gone for a few weeks because of a knee issue. Now, he is back and ready to go.

This is obviously something that will make the Cubs happy because they are getting a good player back as they inch closer to the top of the NL Central.

The Chicago Cubs will be getting Cody Bellinger back on Thursday night.

Bellinger is going to return and play some first base. Obviously, this is a good move for him at this point as he returns from this knee issue.

Before his injury, Bellinger had been having a pretty good year offensively after some really bad down years to end his Los Angeles Dodgers tenure. The former National League MVP needed this change of scenery badly.

He is probably hoping to either lock down an extension with the Cubs or be moved to a contender that could use his services. Either way, he is a winner as long as he stays healthy for the rest of the year.

To make room for Bellinger on the roster, the Cubs optioned Matt Mervis to AAA Iowa. That is a very strange move considering some of the other people taking up room on the roster.

It is nice to get Bellinger back but it would be better for them to keep Mervis up so he can keep working on his game at times. Perhaps it is for playing time purposes, especially since Bellinger is going to play first, but it just feels like a bad choice right now. We will see.

If Bellinger can get back to mashing baseballs the way he was before the injury, the Cubs will continue winning.

In his first game back, he is going to be on first base and batting sixth. With Marcus Stroman on the mound, the Cubs are looking to sweep the Pittsburgh Pirates and get within 3.5 games of first place.

3 players the Cubs can move on from to save 2023. light. Related Story
