Cubs News: Chicago has an impressive comeback victory
The Chicago Cubs have had a tough stretch of baseball lately. They are in fourth place of the NL Central and it doesn’t look like they are going to climb out of that spot any time soon.
However, they certainly had a very fun game against one of the Central teams ahead of them in the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates found themselves with a 5-1 lead over the Cubs going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Of course, you’d think that a team over .500 would be able to hang onto a lead like that over a team well under .500.
That wasn’t the case in this one, however, as the Cubs battled back and then some. Chicago scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead.
The Pirates got one back in the 7th but the Cubs added three more in the 8th. They hung onto that 10-6 score for the win at home.
The Chicago Cubs found a way to win big against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
That is an outstanding win for this team in comeback fashion. They did everything but give up when it would have been easy to do so.
Drew Smyly started the game but he allowed five earned runs. It wasn’t a particularly good game for him by any means. In fact, Cubs’ pitching is far from the reason they won this game.
It is all about the offense when it comes to dissecting this win. The Cubs had 13 hits and multiple players had multiple RBIs. It was one of the better offensive performances that you’ll see from the Cubs at any point this year.
Guys like Mike Tauchman, Seiya Suzuki, and Dansby Swanson deserve a little bit of credit for how they performed at the plate in this one. They are the three hitters that had multiple hits and multiple RBIs.
That is the series win for the Cubs over the Pirates and they have scored double-digit runs in both games. Getting to double digits after being down 5-1 on Wednesday had to feel very good. We’ll see if they can keep the good vibes going throughout the rest of June.
They have a chance to sweep Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Marcus Stroman is going to be on the mound so you know the Cubs will get some good pitching in this one. They can only hope that their offense matches their first two games of the series as they try to get that sweep.
